Back-to-School Autism Carnival at the Behavior Frontiers Detroit ABA Center: A Sensory-Friendly Celebration

On Saturday, August 16th, our Behavior Frontiers Detroit Autism Care Center was buzzing with excitement as families gathered for our Sensory Friendly Back-to-School Carnival. From 11 AM to 2 PM, children and parents enjoyed a day filled with inclusive carnival games, refreshments, school supply giveaways, and community fun—all designed to make the transition into the new school year a little brighter.

The event was created with the unique needs of children with autism in mind, blending playful activities with opportunities for families to connect with our compassionate team of ABA therapy professionals.

Sensory-Friendly Carnival Games and Activities for Every Child

The highlight of the day was the wide variety of inclusive carnival games that made every child feel like a winner. Families cheered as children played and explored, with options that matched different sensory preferences and comfort levels:

  • 🎯 Ring Toss – A classic favorite that encouraged focus and fine motor skills

  • 🦆 Duck Pond – A fun, calming activity perfect for little ones who enjoy water play

  • 🎲 Bean Bag Toss – Great for hand-eye coordination and easy for all ages

  • 🎈 Balloon Animals – A playful treat that brought smiles to kids of all ages

  • 🎨 Face Painting – Colorful designs that let each child express themselves

  • …and more!

To make the day even more exciting, each child received a game scorecard to track the activities they participated in. Once their card was filled, they got to pick out a prize at the end of the carnival, ensuring every child left with a smile and a reward for their efforts.

Backpacks Filled with Back-to-School Essentials

The first ten children to arrive received a special surprise: a Behavior Frontiers backpack filled with back-to-school supplies. Each bag was thoughtfully stocked with items like notebooks, crayons, a pencil box, sensory toys, and folders—giving children with autism the tools they need to start the school year confidently and prepared. Parents expressed how much they appreciated the gesture, noting that it came at the perfect time as families prepared for school routines.

Why Back-to-School Events Matter for Children with Autism

For many children with autism, starting a new school year can bring unique challenges—new teachers, new routines, and new environments that may feel overwhelming. Events like our Detroit Back-to-School Autism Carnival give families the chance to:

  • Practice social skills in a supportive, welcoming setting

  • Connect with other parents and caregivers for community support

  • Meet our dedicated clinical team and learn more about ABA therapy programs in Detroit

  • Celebrate milestones together in a joyful, sensory-free environment

By combining fun with resources, we aim to help families feel better prepared for the year ahead.
