ABA Therapy Covered by Aetna

Yes, Aetna covers ABA therapy for children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) when services are considered medically necessary. As one of the largest commercial insurers in the country, Aetna includes ABA therapy as a behavioral health benefit across most of its commercial plans – and Behavior Frontiers works directly with Aetna as an in-network provider in select locations.
Being in-network means lower out-of-pocket costs, direct billing, and no reimbursement paperwork for your family. Our intake team will conduct a courtesy benefits check as the first step in our intake process, before your child's first session, so there are no surprises.
Coverage varies by plan, but most Aetna commercial plans include:
- Aetna requires a formal ASD diagnosis and a BCBA-developed treatment plan before authorizing services. We manage all of that on your behalf.
- ABA assessment, also known as Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA)
- One-on-one therapy sessions with a dedicated Behavior Technician
- BCBA-supervised treatment planning and oversight
- Caregiver training integrated into the therapy plan
- Progress reviews and ongoing goal updates
- Prior authorization management (handled by our team)
