What is Community-Based ABA Therapy?
Community-based ABA therapy takes your child's goals into the everyday world. A BCBA-supervised Behavior Technician accompanies your child into natural, real-life community settings, helping them practice and generalize the behavioral and social skills they've been building in their ABA therapy programs.
What Does It Look Like?
Community-based sessions can take place in any setting that's meaningful to your child's goals and daily life. Some common examples include:
Grocery shopping and errands
Restaurants and public outings
Playgrounds and parks
Community events and seasonal outings
Theme parks and larger venues
Extracurricular activities
Medical appointments
Salon appointments
Daycare programs
Why Community-Based ABA Matters
One of the most important goals of ABA therapy is real-world skill generalization, or the ability to use a skill not just in the therapy room, but in every environment a child encounters. Community-based ABA therapy can help further support this.
When skills are practiced in the real world, with the same clinical structure and BCBA oversight as center-based care, children with autism can further build confidence, independent living skills, and real-world capability that carries over into daily life.
Who Is Community-Based ABA For?
Community-based ABA therapy is available for children who are currently enrolled in a Behavior Frontiers' autism therapy program and have a clinical recommendation from their BCBA. It is not available as a standalone service - families must be actively enrolled in a Behavior Frontiers' center-based or in-home ABA program.
