Virtual Field Trip: Autism Care Center in Chesapeake, Virginia

Virtual Field Trip: Autism Care Center in Chesapeake, Virginia — Behavior Frontiers

Located in the southeast corner of Virginia lies Chesapeake. Part of the Chesapeake-Norfolk metro area, the town is home to over 250,000 people, making it the second largest city in the state. For the last year, Chesapeake has also been the home of one of Behavior Frontiers’ autism care centers!

If you’re looking for autism care near Chesapeake, our center is open and enrolling! This large center features a combination of large playrooms and smaller, individual therapy rooms. Our dedicated playrooms focus on a number of different skills, including vocational play, motor skills, and dramatic play!

The person entrusted with bringing ABA therapy to Chesapeake is Clinical Director Mark Crevelli.

Meet Our Behavior Frontiers Chesapeake Clinical Director, Mark Crevelli

Mark Crevelli received his B.A. in Liberal Studies from California State University Long Beach, obtained his M.S. in Applied Behavior Analysis from National University, and became a BCBA in 2019. He has been working in the field of ABA since 2015 serving children ranging from 2-16 years old in the home, school, and clinic setting.

Mark has experience with clients who have varying degrees of impact in the areas of communication, executive functioning, social skills, and self-help. He focuses on teaching pivotal skills that open opportunities for lifelong learning, ensuring skills taught are important for individual clients and families, and making long-term plans to facilitate acquisition of truly functional skills.

Caregiver relationship building, consultation, and training along with naturalistic teaching strategies and proactive behavioral interventions are a foundation of Mark’s strategy for fostering each client’s unique path to progress.

Mark, who joined Behavior Frontiers in 2016, relocated to Chesapeake in 2021 to start up our in-home services in the area. He opened our autism care center in Chesapeake in March, 2023.

Mark says that Chesapeake offers many opportunities for families to find the perfect spot for their needs. “The city of Chesapeake is very suburban with lovely neighborhoods and friendly people. Kids are out in the cul-de-sacs on the regular and there is a big sense of community. The parks are some good features in Chesapeake. The area is wonderful for raising a family.”

“The Hampton Roads (the area we serve) area as a whole has a similar vibe but gets busier as you get into the Virginia Beach and Norfolk areas,” he continues. “Those have much more to do. Good seafood, museums, music, and activities. The Granby and Colley Avenue area in Norfolk is fun, as well as the Oceanfront Virginia Beach. Overall, you could throw a dart and find a good place to live in the region as a whole.”

The Chesapeake area also offers a lot for autism families.

“The Tidewater Autism Society and FACT (families of autism come together) are the top resources in the area. They provide a huge amount of support for the community. The Autism society has great events like the Heros and Villains and Surfer’s Healing.”

Are you a parent interested in autism care services near Chesapeake? Here’s what Mark would like you to know:

“Our staff and facilities are absolutely top-notch. We focus on making sure every client has what they need to learn and grow. Our Chesapeake center is laid out to revolve around socialization, generalization, and naturalistic learning. The treatment rooms and communal play areas are open to promote collaboration and engagement between clients. We offer programs that mimic a school environment to ensure that our clients have an easy transition later on!”
